The Peters and the Langhorsts teamed up to start Wakefield Pork Inc. in 1991 with the following philosophy in mind...

TEAMWORK:  "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world.  Indeed it is the only thing that ever has."

Steve & Mary Langhorst

Steve's great grandfather, Peter Marcus Peterson, whose photo hangs in the lobby of the Wakefield Pork office, depicts the swine industry vision of 1905.  The Langhorsts still live on the "home place," but today you will see a modern-day operation that utilizes the latest technologies and production management.

Chuck & Joann Peters

The Peters currently farm next door to the "home place" near St. Peter, MN, where they operate a 900 head farrowing unit on-site.  Chuck's family remembers farming with round sheds and straw roofs decades ago! The Peters family homesteaded land in Nicollet county in 1862 and have over 5 generations of experience in pork production and land stewardship.

The Peters and Langhorsts believe strongly in working partnerships with each other, contract growers, employees, local mills, and local businesses.  Surrounding themselves with good people is the key to their continued growth and industry success.
