The PFEU Program
Pork for the European Union is a trade agreement between the United States and the European Union that facilitates the rules under which pork can be traded since 1999. One of the primary stipulations states that:
"All pork exported to the EU must originate from animals that have never been treated with hormonal growth promotants."
In order to ensure these stipulations are followed, companies that produce pork under PFEU are subject to a third party audit by the Audit, Review and Compliance Branch of the Food Safety and Inspection Service.
