WPI History |

Wakefield Pork is a business partnership formed in 1991 by two second-generation pork producers looking towards expansion. Using shared resources, the Langhorst's and Peters' leased their first sow facility near Richmond, MN in Wakefield township. By the following year, WPI had hired its first full-time office staff, contracted its first farrowing and finishing site and started toll-milling arrangements with local feed mills.

Today, Wakefield Pork has grown into a well-managed system of leased and contract farrowing, nursery, finishing, and wean-to-finish facilities with over 40,000 sows in production. In 2000, WPI has chosen to enroll in Pork for the European Union (PFEU) program with JBS Swift & Co., following strict guidelines that allow WPI to currently export pork in the European Union and Japan markets. WPI's approach to the swine industry is a continuous, controlled expansion through teamwork and job ownership to produce an excellent pork product. This combination has brought success to both Wakefield Pork and its people! |
